People can be categorized into numerous boxes with respect to just a simple word ‘personality’. Of course, everyone’s personality is different. People have different traits, different reactions to various situations and different outcomes in the end. Personality defines what a person is. Personality affects every aspect of one’s life. Such aspects also include sports. As an athlete, it is crucial to understand the importance of personality and how it can affect your performance.
Extrovert
First of all, let’s talk about the extroverts. Extroverts are mostly confident, bossy, excited and possess good sense of humor. They are good when sitting in a group of people and entertaining them equally. They show good teamwork. Although they might be good at completing the tasks, they hate to be given orders. Extra extroverts even state that they hate to lose. If your personality shows the qualities of an extrovert then you should opt for games that have arousal levels, team work, agility, and loosely based on concentration. Some of the games that might come into the extroverts’ category are football, boxing, cricket, wrestling, rugby, baseball and basketball.
Introvert
An introvert is usually thought to be the willow wild boy sitting in the far corner of the class. Introverts joke and stay in the company of people although down in their heart they just despise it. What they truly desire is to be left alone in their own minds but to avoid the spotlight, they behave as everybody else. If your personality shows the qualities of an introvert then there is another separate set of games lying for you. You can try proving your mettle in snooker, archery, golf, shooting, badminton, tennis and table tennis. The games list doesn’t end here but all of them require individual skill and individual inspiration to work your way through victory. These games require low arousal levels, precision, high concentration, and self-motivation.
Aggression
Personality can also be categorized by another important trait, aggression. This particular trait refers to the part of an individual’s mind where he possesses a great degree of self-motivation but at the same time, he may also experience lack of self-control. Yes, that does result in fury and anger and can put someone in a fight leading to injuries. But if this aggression is controlled, it can prove to be an advantage for the athlete. If the player is capable enough, which every human being is, to keep his aggression just at the level where he doesn’t lose hold then he can achieve great goals positively.
Two types of aggression are known in this regard. One is indirect aggression where the player is going hard on the objects rather on his opponents. This aggression can prove vital or destructive depending on the intensity. This aggression can include hitting a ball hard or hitting the bat hard on every shot.
The other one is direct aggression. This type of aggression includes physical collapse of two human beings. It is taken out on other people. This can be a tackle in a rugby game or aggressive punching in boxing or wrestling.
