Are you sick of hearing the same songs over and over again on your running playlist? Do you find yourself desperately searching for some new fitness music to keep yourself motivated? Well, look no further! Here’s a breakdown of some of this summer’s hottest hits and why they need to be on your running playlist yesterday.
“Carolina” by Harry Styles
Styles’ alternative vibes will be a refreshing change of pace from all the other upbeat pop hits you normally hear on the radio, and its rock ‘n roll feel will certainly keep you captivated while on the move. Try this song at the beginning of your run as you’re warming up.
“Green Light” by Lorde
Granted, it does take a little while for this song to get going, which can be a no-no for some runners. However, about a minute in, the song transforms into an upbeat, pop anthem that will have you singing through your running route.
Another plus is that this song is about going after the things you want, and what better way to do that than by running?
“Despacito” by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee Ft. Justin Bieber
If we had to predict the summer’s top jam, we’d bet on “Despacito.” Not only is the song incredibly catchy, but it also provides a steady, fun beat for you to time out your pace to. Although the song literally translates to “slowly,” its main focus involves dancing and rhythm, which are two activities I know I can get behind while running.
“No Promises” by Cheat Codes Ft. Demi Lovato
Having already charted on Billboard’s Top 100 during its first week, this song is definitely one that fits perfectly on a motivational running playlist. Its traditional bubblegum pop tune is laced with a strong beat that’ll go great alongside your running strides, and you’ll definitely enjoy hearing Lovato’s crazy vocals over the sound of your panting.
“Good Life” by G-Eazy and Kehlani
This is the perfect song to have on your playlist for when you pass the dreaded halfway point of your run. The middles of runs are always the hardest, but this song will certainly recharge your tired body with its positive message about loving life (and the fact that this song also debuted on the latest Fast and Furious album should serve as extra inspiration for you to be just as fast and furious on your run).
“There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” by Shawn Mendes
This song is another great motivator during your middle-of-the-run slump because it’s about letting go of your inhibitions and just getting a little wild. We are all guilty of holding ourselves back out of fear in some instances, and this song is basically about just saying, “Oh, to hell with it.” What more do you need to hear when running?
“Kissing Strangers” by DNCE Ft. Nicki Minaj
This is our favorite song on this playlist by far, and we couldn’t really tell you why. As far as running goes, there’s a steady and quick downbeat to time out your running strides to, but there’s something else that’s really funky about this song that makes it obnoxiously addicting and catchy.
Maybe it’s the unlikely duo found in Joe Jonas and Nicki Minaj, but either way, something about this jam just works on this playlist.
“Bad Liar” by Selena Gomez
While this song isn’t exactly anything special musically, a more perfect running song could not exist. It’s simple, catchy, and has a perfect beat that it naturally easy to follow along to, so be sure to add this to your summer pop playlist.
“Symphony” Clean Bandit Ft. Zara Larsson
“Symphony” is a great song to slow down your pace to as you finish the last leg of your run. As a tune that doubles as both mainstream and mellow, this song will surely be stuck in your head for the rest of the day, even long after you’ve abandoned your headphones.
“Still Got Time” by Zayn
To end your run, use “Still Got Time” as a cool down song. There’s just something about listening to Zayn Malik’s godly voice that calms down my soul. Also, never mind the fact that the actual song is exceptional as well. With chill vibes and soothing vocals, this is the perfect song to have as a finale to your run.
