Find yourself running away at the mention of kale? Well now you don’t have to! We’re here to show you an easy way to incorporate the leafy veggie into your diet: baked kale chips.
Kale chips have the crisp of a potato chip, and the crunch of kale that make for a surprisingly delicious snack. This healthy snack is not only easy to prepare, but also just as easy to devour. Here’s our quick and easy step-by-step recipe, complete with three different ways to dress your baked kale chips.
What you’ll need:
1. fresh kale
2. choice of olive oil or vinegar
3. choice of salt (and/or other preferred seasonings)
The Basic Recipe:
1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees
Although this is the standard, feel free to set your oven according to your desired level of kale crunch.
2. Rinse kale before cooking
Yes, it is important to wash your produce! Be sure to rinse the kale well before cooking.
3. Dress with olive oil, then salt
The basic recipe calls for an even layer of olive oil, followed by salt. This will produce a yummy classic kale chip.
4. Spread kale evenly on baking tray
Make sure to cut up your kale (try using a pair of clean scissors) before spreading it out on your baking tray. Giving your kale room on the tray will allow the vegetable to bake evenly; the more crispiness the better, right?
5. Bake for 20 minutes, or until crispy
Again, for even cooking, try to move the kale around on its tray (flip to other side of leaves, if possible). You’ll know your chips are ready when they look ultra-crispy and mouthwatering.
Additional Ways to Serve Your Kale Chips:
1. Crushed Hot Chili Pepper Kale Chips
This one’s definitely for the daring—after covering your kale in olive oil, coat with crushed hot chili pepper (or powder) for a spicy snack.
2. Parmesan Kale Chips
Calling all cheese lovers! Similarly, after olive oil, coat your kale with an even layer of parmesan cheese.
