With the holidays quickly approaching, the cookies, candy and treats are also in the near future. It is easy for a few unwanted pounds to sneak up on you during the holiday season, so check out these easy tips to keep your stomach in check during the holidays.
Don’t Pre-Party Starve Yourself

“I didn’t have breakfast or lunch so it’s fine that I ate 15 sugar cookies… right?” We have all been there, carefully watching what we eat before a holiday party, only to attack the Hors d’oeuvres as soon as you walk in. Restricting your food intake before a party will almost guarantee over-eating once you actually arrive at the event, so make sure to eat as you normally would throughout the day to avoid extreme-hunger at the party.
Stay Hydrated
While you should always drink roughly 8 glasses of water a day, it is especially important to keep in mind while at parties. Make sure to drink a glass of water for every few glasses of wine to avoid dehydration and an unpleasant next morning.
Have a Health Partner
Either before you get to the party or as soon as you arrive, pull a friend to the side and tell them you want to have a relatively healthy night. Sharing this will keep you more accountable for what you are putting into your body for the night, as well as give your friend permission to shoot you a look after your 4th serving of potatoes.
Bring a Healthy Option
In my experience, guests usually are asked to bring either drinks or dessert to a holiday party. Just because you are bringing a dessert, doesn’t mean it needs to be a chocolate cake! Take a lower-calorie route with a pound cake, berries and whipped cream. You will know that at least one dessert at the party will be both tasty and healthy.
