Worried about losing your beach bod to the constant temptations of ice cream and other refreshing treats? Don’t waste any extra money or calories on these ideas for do-it-yourself frozen summer drinks. Make them at home, sip them in the sun, and feel good doing it!
Coffee Frappuccino
This is probably the most common summer drink and happens to be the easiest to make! First, make a small cup of strong coffee and cool it off with some low fat milk. Then, blend this with ice, half of a banana, and your preferred sweetener until smooth. It will feel more indulgent and filling, but you have really only added half of a banana to your regular morning coffee!
Milkshakes
Milkshakes don’t have to be loaded with ice cream and sugary syrups! As the name implies, milk can stand alone as the creamy base for your shake. Add vanilla and sweetener to taste, then blend with ice and a frozen banana for a thicker consistency. If you are looking to indulge a little, throw in some of your favorite treats – you’ll never know the difference from a regular cookies and cream frappe.
Frozen Lemonade
The key to frozen lemonade is the combination of sweet citrus and creamy vanilla ice cream. Luckily, you can use non fat vanilla yogurt for the same effect and half the calories! Simply combine lemonade mix with the yogurt, vanilla extract and a splash of milk. Then blend this mixture with ice and frozen mango (the mango will create a smooth texture without overpowering any of the other flavors).
Bubble Tea
The creamy base and tapioca jelly in traditional Bubble Tea can be replaced with a healthy, fruitier version of the drink. Combine your choice of tea with a low fat milk instead of cream, and then blend that with ice and frozen fruit. Instead of tapioca, pour your mixture over finely chopped kiwi or mango, for a sweet, healthy surprise in every sip.
